Darkhouse spearing has been a part of Minnesota's fishing heritage for many years, enjoyed by pike fisherman all across the state.  Our family has enjoyed this sport on Lake Of The Woods for many years.  Spearing was more popular with the "older" generation than it is today which may be due to added regulations and slot limits or just a change in fishing styles.

Northern pike spearing on Lake of the Woods is a bit different than spearing on most of Minnesota's smaller inland lakes where often many fish are seen during the day but they are mostly the smaller "hammerhandle" size fish.  Here on Lake Of The Woods we don't see many fish each day, but the fish we do see are usually pretty big.  Your chance of seeing that trophy "log" come into your decoy is better here than any other place around!!

Spearing starts as soon as ice conditions allow.  We will transport you with snowmobiles or three wheelers until the ice thickens to permit heavier vehicles.  Water clarity, which on Lake Of The Woods can be a real issue, is very import for spearing northern pike.  Some years it's excellent and some years not so much!!

Early ice offers the best spearing opportunities with continued good chances the remainder of the season which closes the end of Febuary.

When you spear with us, your darkhouse will have the heat on upon arrival, the hole will be open and ready for your fishing adventure.  All houses have adjustable decoy lines in them.

- Spear
- Decoys
- Lunch and refreshments
- Warm comfortable cloths
- Fishing license
- Live bait if you prefer that over an artificial decoy
